The Cast Of “The Magicians” Say Goodbye To Their Characters
Posted by Cole in Hale, Television, The Magicians, Videos
Yesterday, Entertainment Weekly released a bittersweet video of the cast of The Magicians saying a thank you and goodbye to their beloved characters.
In the video, Hale says:
Eliot, who I would like to thank deeply for five years of non-stop, unexpected adventure, complexity, depth, I’m just really grateful that he allowed me to paint with a wide variety of colors. And [he] was a character who didn’t fit into any specific box, there was always an evolution at stake in his character and throughout the seasons of the show and I’m really grateful for that. So, thank you, Eliot, for never keeping it boring, for always having something witty to say, and for finally being able to confront your demons and move through the scariest parts of your shadow. I will miss you, I will always love you, and see you later, I guess.
That’s So Retrograde: The Magic of Friendship
Posted by Cole in Articles & Interviews, Hale
Hale was the guest on the most recent episode (Ep. 242 “The Magic of Friendship”) of That’s So Retrograde, a podcast by his long time friends, Stephanie Simbari and Elizabeth Kott.
In the episode, Hale discusses his longtime friendship with the podcast hosts, his journey in Hollywood, and his role as Eliot on The Magicians. Hale and Stephanie clear the air about the rumors of their “marriage,” stating that they are not married. Stephanie tells Hale, “I need you to get the f**k out of my way so I can find a real husband,” to which Hale replies, “I support this.” Hale also talks about his upcoming music, stating he found a producer that matched well with him and they are producing what Hale hopes will become an album, with a song release in the next month an a half (so soon!).
This is an excellent episode and we encourage you to take a listen at one of the links below.
You can find the podcast on Spotify, iTunes, and the That’s So Retrograde podcast site.
“The Magicians” To End at Season 5
Posted by Cole in Articles & Interviews, News, Television, The Magicians
As many Syfy shows before it, The Magicians has been cancelled at season 5. The show’s final episode, titled “Fillory & Further” will air on April 1. TVInsider had an excellent interview with creators and showrunners Sera Gamble and John McNamara, which you can read here: “Syfy, Sera Gamble & John McNamara Address the End of ‘The Magicians'”.
In light of the news, Hale posted a screencapture from The Magicians trilogy by Lev Grossman, highlighting a quote from Eliot that says, “I know I said I didn’t need a family to become who I was supposed to be, but it turned out that I did. And it was you. We’ll meet again.” Hale included a caption that reads:
This is a heartfelt Thank You to all you kids ( and grown-ups ) out there for your continued love and support over the years. Your dedication to each other and to the world inspired by Lev’s books helped keep us alive for 5 Seasons, and served as a constant reminder that family can be found, chosen, and nurtured in the most surprising and serendipitous ways. Meeting so many of you and hearing your stories has been a highlight of my life. Thank you for your love and attention through this very unusual and beautiful evolution. I’m eternally grateful to our creator @levgrossman, my show Dads @johnthemcnamara and @seragamble, our incredible cast, crew, producers and @audinkle: Thanks for giving me a shot at a character and show I’ll love forever. I’m so proud to be your Eliot. Only Love. —H
Will The Magicians be picked up elsewhere?
That’s hard to say. Very few cancelled shows have been picked up at another network or platform. In the past, Amazon Prime has picked up formerly cancelled Syfy show The Expanse and Netflix picked up the Sera Gamble show You from Lifetime. However, McNamara stated shopping it to other platforms, adding, “none of them seemed in the end like a perfect financial or creative fit.” The season 5 finale was written to double as a series finale just in case it isn’t picked up. All the fans can do is make sure a potential network can see The Magicians as a good investment to renew.
What does this mean for Hale?
In the case The Magicians is not picked up elsewhere, Hale will have to audition for pilot season if he’d like to stick to TV (we certainly would love to see him continue doing television, and we would also like to see some music from him). He does now have The Magicians on his acting resume, a project that allowed him to show off a range of talent one would expect many shows to want. We hope the best for Hale’s journey and we will continue to be here, supporting this extraordinary talent.
