The Magicians: Season 2

Original air date: January 25 – April 19, 2017

Eliot assumes role as High King of Fillory, with Quentin, Alice, and Margo as the other three kings and queens. The Breakbills students must defeat The Beast in addition to a new foe, a mischievous God named Reynard. Eliot begins his duty as a monarch while the other students travel between Earth and Fillory to gain allies, items, and knowledge to defeat their enemies.

In the aftermath of their clash with The Beast, Quentin and his friends scramble for a new plan, while Julia and The Beast strike a dangerous deal.

Eliot’s Role: Alice revives Eliot and the group learn of an armory at the castle that contains books of information about magic, available to the disposal of the kings and queens, however the group first need their crowns, and they go on a journey to retrieve said crowns. After proving he is a Child of Earth by imitating Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing, Eliot is crowned by King Quentin and is dubbed as High King Eliot, the Spectacular. He crowns Queen Margo and Queen Alice. They arrive at what is to be Eliot’s new home, Castle Whitespire. When his friends must return to Brakebills, Eliot has fears about being left alone due to inconsistencies between Earth time and Fillory time.

Quentin, Alice, Penny and Margo seek a new weapon. Eliot struggles with being king. Julia and The Beast find an unexpected ally.

Eliot’s Role: Eliot begins his duties as High King of Fillory, beginning with trying to figure out an agricultural feat. He opens up to Fen with his secret that he grew up on a farm. Fen tries to satisfy Eliot as a wife should. Eliot uses his knowledge of farming to help supply the farmers with a way to grow sustainable crops.

Quentin and friends prepare to face The Beast again, while Julia conspires with The Beast and their new ally to lure and trap Reynard.

Eliot’s Role: After sitting on the cursed thrones, Eliot, Quentin, Alice, and Margo have their sanity warped and the four try to kill each other. Penny, the only member of the group who isn’t royalty, saves them. Eliot, Margo, and Quentin perform magic as a distraction for the Beast while Alice powers up to defeat him. After the Beast gets away, Eliot and Margo go to Ember’s Tomb to consult the God as the group try to face the Beast again.

Quentin and Penny embark upon a quest. Margo works on a way to help Eliot. Julia seeks out an old friend’s help.

Eliot’s Role: Eliot feels in over his head as high king and Margo helps him find a way to return to Earth. Eliot and Margo create a golem of him and use a spell that allows his mind to occupy the golem’s body as his real body sleeps on Fillory. Eliot returns to Brakebills and becomes highly annoyed by Todd. He meets a boy named Javier and just as they’re are about to have sex, Fen wakes him up in Fillory. Eliot and his golem simultaneously have sex with Fen and Javier. In talking to Dean Fogg, who advises Eliot that he cannot live two lives and by not being able to leave Fillory, there is only but one option, Eliot admits that by diving head-first into a new land, he thought he’d die.

Life without magic proves difficult for Quentin. Julia deals with upsetting news. Eliot and Margo are faced with a new threat in Fillory. Penny returns to old stomping grounds.

Eliot’s Role: Eliot expresses his feelings about becoming a father after Fen reveals to him that she is pregnant with their child. As he speaks to her, a Fillorian soldier tries to assassinate Eliot via strangulation. After being consulted that execution be the way to best deal with the criminal, Eliot and Margo discuss by what means it would be handled. Ultimately, Eliot decides to not execute the criminal.

Quentin teams up with Alice’s dad. Margo uses her powers of diplomacy while Penny tries to save a kidnapped Fillory. Banishing Reynard comes with some surprises.

Eliot’s Role: Upon meeting Prince Ess of Loria and Margo refusing the prince’s hand in marriage, Castle Whitespire and all its inhabitants are seemingly kidnapped and taken to Loria. Eliot tries to talk to Margo about arranged marriage, but she refutes, claiming her situation different from his. Fen comes forth to Eliot about her former ties with the man who tried to assassinate him, to which he begins to question who Fen really is. Penny informs Eliot and Margo that the Lorians just performed illusion magic and they were in Fillory the whole time. Margo declares war against Loria without first consulting Eliot, who does not seem to want war.

Julia and Kady enlist Quentin, Margo, Eliot and Penny for a magical heist.

Eliot’s Role: Eliot is informed that Fillory is broke and cannot afford to go to the war Margo brought on. Eliot goes to sleep in Fillory and travels back to Brakebills via golem. Eliot and Margo agree to help rob a bank for Julia because they can hold sympathy and resentment at the same time—and they need gold for Fillory. During the heist, Eliot goes into the bank with Kady and Quentin to unlock the wards. As a psychical magician, Eliot creates a device to help Penny float. However, Eliot’s device fails Penny, so Penny contacts Eliot to let him know that Penny is trapped. Eliot, Kady, and Quentin go back into the bank to save Penny. Julia has a limited time device to help them in their escape. However, on the last rewind, Eliot’s golem is killed and Eliot’s body on Fillory goes into shock.

Julia, Kady, Penny and Quentin set out to find another spawn of Reynard as Kady struggles to reveal to Julia the consequences of her recent procedure. Quentin reluctantly enlists the help of Alice’s Niffin to save the Brakebills gang by creating a word as bond spell with her…but quickly regrets it once realizing its true motives. With a war waging between Fillory and Loria and an unconscious High King Eliot, Julia takes matters into her own hands which puts Fillory, and Margo, in a difficult situation.

Eliot’s Role: Fen and Margo enlist the help of a healer to help transfer Eliot’s consciousness from the dead golem back to Eliot’s body in Fillory.

Dean Fogg and Professor Lipson attempt to rid Quentin of Alice’s Niffin. Meanwhile, with magic fading in Fillory, Eliot agrees to a risky duel with King Idri of Loria, in lieu of a war, in the hopes that it will gain the respect of the Fillorians in the process. Julia, Penny and Kady locate Reynard’s son in an effort to lure Reynard to them.

Eliot’s Role: After war is declared, Eliot chooses to do one-on-one combat with Idri, the king of Loria. As he prepares for the duel, Fen presents him with a magic sword. Margo puts Eliot and Fillory into a musical number of “One Day More” from Les Miserables. While Eliot and Idri were fighting, magic had a brown-out and Eliot ran up a tree, allowing the two to talk. Instead of one king dying, the two become betrothed to one another.

The Royal Court of Fillory prepares for Eliot’s nuptials as he endeavors to win over the Fillorians with the extravagant event. Penny begins his contractual obligations to the Neitherlands Library as Kady searches for any information about god killing. Quentin experiences a mind-bending vision while on a drug-laced trip that sends him and Julia on a mysterious quest.

Eliot’s Role: Eliot stresses over planning his wedding to Idri and enlists Josh to be his chef. They learn that the Foo-Fighters were planning to kill Eliot at the wedding.

Quentin and Julia travel to the Underworld. Margo must deal with the fallout of her past decisions. Senator Gaines learns of his gift. Penny is determined to enter the Poison Room.

Eliot’s Role: While Eliot was getting to know Idri a little better, a bored Ember turns many people, including Idri, into rats. Eliot puts a truth potion into Margo’s drink and find out she made a deal with the fairies with his unborn child bargaining chip. As Josh was about to suggest democracy for Fillory to Eliot, Ember kicks Eliot out for fun.

Alice and her shade are reassembled. Julia and Kady are determined to draw out Reynard. Eliot and Quentin are determined to return back to Fillory. Penny searches for a book.

Eliot’s Role: Eliot and Quentin find that they can return to Fillory by using the clock the Chatwins used in the first Fillory book. They track the clock to Vancouver and take a trip there only to discover that Ember’s brother, Umber, is alive and has possession of the clock.

A crisis comes to a head when the true power behind the troubles comes to party. Battles are won and wars are lost, as Quentin and the others must protect their kingdom. Alice makes a startling revelation and things may never be the same.

Eliot’s Role: Eliot visits Julia in her apartment and convinces her to help them save Fillory from Ember, who, is being disruptive and is planning on destroying his world due to boredom. Eliot talks with Idri before he returns to Loria. Eliot and Margo throw a party with little cakes to lure Ember. After magic is shut off by the old gods, the fairies invade and take control of Eliot’s government.
